Analysing October : The not so common bollywood romance!

October is 2018 film directed by Shoojit Sircar with Varun Dhawan and Banita Sandhu in the lead roles.

This is not the usual bollywood romantic movie where the guy meets the girl, they fall in love, break up and again fall in love. October is different, here the girl is in coma.

Dan and Shiuli works as interns at the same hotel. There was nothing between them. Things change when Shiuli met with an accident and falls into coma. Dan comes to know that she had asked where was Dan just before the accident. This creates curiosity in Dan and he started assuming that Shiuli was in love with him. He started visiting the hospital daily leaving all his job to get answer to his doubts but never got any response from Shiuli. He takes care of her in an unconditional and unconventional manner. All he wants to know is that why she had asked about him on that day. She starts recovering and is discharged from the hospital. He visits her house daily to check her condition. Few days later she dies which leaves him in grief and sorrow. Dan stars to concentrate on his career and becomes a chef.

In the final scene Shiuli's mother says to Dan that she doesn't want the Shiuli plant to be left abandoned as the entire family is shifting, to which Dan says "I will take it, don't worry". This is one of the few bollywood movies that left me with tears and had haunted me.

What makes october different is its simplicity. The film had no songs unlike the other romantic films, but the background score was exceptional as the viewers could feel the pain. This is my favourite Varun Dhawan film. He had delivered his career best performance. October shows us that there need not be romantic scenes, comedy, or songs to make a good film of this genre.
